SENSEI KEN G WYLSON

Senior Instructor and Founder

Sensei Ken has had several decades experience in this field and he is a 4th Dan - Black Belt in Ashihara Karate.

2nd Dan - Japanese Kickboxing

Level One - Tai Chi Instructor

He has studied many different styles including Muay Thai, Aikido, Tang Soo Do (same roots as Tae Kwon Do), Atemi Jujitsu, Judo, Shotokan, Wado Ryu, Krav Maga and various Self Defence Courses and Military Fighting systems (RAF) getting to Brown Belt in various Styles but not grading for Black. Sensei Ken started training as a child in various different Kung Fu (Wushu Kwan), Karate and Judo clubs around the Wythenshawe area.

From there and the cross-training Sensei Ken was looking at merging the styles that he’d been practicing to form one New Hybrid Style which takes the Old with the New.

With some formulating and assistance with other Instructors he began to look more into the style of karate itself, looking at the kata thinking about each move. Why is it there? What's it for? Can it be used for anything else? Through Sensei Ken’s experience of Traditional Karate looking into the core of Bunkai. He amended most of the kata to make a more realistic approach and now the kata can support a various amount of Bunkai and Ohyo (applications). He added moves, body twists, changed round kicks to front kicks, taken moves out, included "grappling" techniques into the kata etc to make the Kata and style "complete" or "whole". And created Koku Tora Ryu Karate Do. “Koku Tora Ryu” actually means “Dark Tiger School of the Empty Hand Way”. Eventually this became know as it is now to just Black Tiger Martial Arts.
